Let’s talk about the University!
The University of Patras was founded in 1964 and is the third largest university in Greece, but this is not what you really want to know…
The University of Patras, in collaboration with the Greek organization Libre Space Foundation, has completed the design and development of the first satellite of the Greek design called “UPSat”! The institutions goal is to create an open ecosystem around satellite and space technologies, With UPSat being the first realization of this ambition.
And for speed freaks we have something really fast..
In the academic year 2002, a group of undergraduate students from the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering of the University of Patras, in collaboration with graduate students and professors, began the design of the first Formula Student race car! The team is called UoP Racing and participates every year in competitions with more than 150 students working and studying on issues related to the design and construction of a single-seater vehicle. UoP Racing has competed with 3 different cars so far and is now testing the 4th single-seat team. You can search for more information at the official site http://lms.mech.upatras.gr
There are buses to take you to the University and it will cost you 0.75 – don’t try to avoid paying because you’ll always enter the bus by the front door and the driver will ask for your ticket! You can get your ticket from the bus driver ,but it will cost 1,50€. You can also use Patras Suburban Railway with ticket cost 1€ and transfer to a bus from “Kastelokampos” stop.
If you live in Patras, it is easy enough to travel abroad (for example in Italy) and visit many beautiful places nearby such as Aigio, Kalavrita, Akrata and many others which you’ll discover! The Rio-Antirrio bridge is also very useful for trips while is also very impressive especially at night!Tip: Is one of the best places to put athletic gear, headphones and run.
